Ottawa Overlook Camping in Brecksville Reservation

There are three backcountry campsites at the Ottawa Overlook in Cleveland Metroparks’ Brecksville Reservation. While not directly on the trail, these are accessible from the trail fairly easily. Permits are required.

  • Leave No Trace backcountry site features designated tent sites, a group kitchen/cooking area, and a food storage location to hang food in a critter safe manner. Ottawa Overlook Backcountry Sites reside about 0.25 miles from Ottawa Point Picnic Area. Guests are NOT permitted to park at Ottawa Point Picnic Area. These sites have a 1 night maximum stay.
  • Overnight parking by permit is available in Brecksville Reservation at Brecksville Nature Center parking lot (about 3.1 miles to the backcountry sites) or Plateau Picnic Area (about 3.4 miles to the backcountry sites). Parking location must be specified when obtaining a permit. Vehicles can't be parked for more than 1 night.
  • These backcountry sites are designed for users to hike-in carrying equipment. When parking in Cleveland Metroparks, guests should expect to hike at least 3 miles to their campsite.  
  • These sites are great for backpacking and microadventures where sleeping under the stars is the goal. 
  • There are 3 tent sites that have the capabilities to house a maximum of 4 individuals each. 
  • Ottawa Point Picnic Area (located .25 miles from the sites) is a reservable location; please be respectful of any guests using the area. 
    • Potable water is available here May-September and should be carried in outside of this timeframe. Campers are asked to use the restrooms (available year-round) in the Picnic Area. 
    • Ottawa Point Picnic Area is designed to fulfill guests’ restroom and water needs. It is NOT a place for guests to park and start their backcountry experience.
