Cuyahoga Valley National Park

• November 15, 2024: Use caution and observe temporary detours on the Towpath Trail south of Red Lock Trailhead due to construction preparation. Cuyahoga Valley National Park will be installing a new culvert where Brandywine Creek passes underneath the Towpath Trail in the coming months. Detour will likely use an access road next to the trail. 
• June 24, 2024 - December 1, 2024: Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) will close the Lock 29 parking lot and river access in Peninsula June 24 to December 1, 2024, while a contractor completes riverbank stabilization work. Parking will be available at other nearby locations and visitors will still have access to the Towpath Trail and amenities in the Village of Peninsula.

• October 25, 2024: The City of Akron is working with a contractor on repairs to the Market Street underpass on Route 59 downtown, which will impact the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. The trail will remain open but will be narrowed to a half-lane for the duration of the construction, which is anticipated to continue through the end of 2024.
• Ongoing: Due to construction, the Towpath Trail in Downtown Akron at Lock 3 is detoured to Main Street through November 30, 2024.
• August 27, 2024: A section of the Towpath Trail near the intersection of South Van Buren and Eastern Road has been temporarily patched and is open to the public. It may temporarily close in the future when a permanent repair is made. Use caution when traveling in this area and visit this page for updates.

• Advisory: A possible leak or underground utility may be causing an ongoing washout of the Towpath Trail surface between Riverland Ave. and Rt. 212 in Navarre. Please obey all warning signage and slow down in this area.
