On October 17, 2007, Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic announced that the Richard Howe House will be moved to a new location on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

On October 17, 2007, Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic announced that the Richard Howe House will be moved to a new location on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. The current site will be developed into housing for students at The University of Akron.

Once the Howe House is relocated to corner of Exchange and Water streets, the new site will provide a beautiful setting overlooking the canal and Canal Park. The City will be moving the house and building the basement/foundation which will include a conference room. The site allows for a walk-out basement.
