CUYAHOGA, SUMMIT, STARK, TUSCARAWAS Counties, Ohio - The Fiscal Year 2010 Grant Application period recently ended with $600,000 awarded to grantees throughout the four county Ohio & Erie Canalway region. Grants were awarded to numerous partners for a range of activities. A list of FY2010 awards is provided below.
The Ohio & Erie Canalway Association (OECA) works with local partners in the community to provide grants that permit the development, renovation, interpretation and restoration of facilities and features within its boundaries which help visitors understand and appreciate important natural and cultural aspects of the Ohio & Erie Canalway corridor.
Supporting Canalway Projects
Since the founding of the Ohio & Erie Canalway, the OECA has awarded over $6.5 million for projects within the Canalway. These funds have been matched with more than $27 million from private, local, state, and other federal funding sources. This has allowed the OECA to contribute to the construction of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, America’s Byway and Visitor Facilities and Services throughout the Ohio & Erie Canal as well as to enrich local cities, towns, and villages through community development projects that feature historic preservation and/or natural conservation.
