See the Canalway by NPS Passport - a gateway to adventures
The Ohio & Erie Canalway is a National Heritage Area – designated by Congress – to help preserve and celebrate the rails, trails, landscapes, towns and sites that grew up along the first 110 miles of the canal that helped Ohio and our nation grow.
Did You Know?
We’re also an affiliated unit of the National Park Service (NPS), and work in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park. These wonderful connections allow us to expand NPS programs into our 110-mile footprint, which stretches through four counties - Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark, and Tuscarawas.
In Summer 2016, we’re expanding the NPS Passport Program into the Canalway.
We'll be working with iconic partner sites within our region to become official Ohio & Erie Canalway NPS Passport Stops. Each site is connected to the Canalway story - and some of these locations may surprise you.
Because, while you may know us first by the Towpath Trail ... our footprint reaches far beyond that. In fact, each year over 22M visitors find their way to venues of culture, history, recreation and nature within our footprint - all with roots in our history.
Our Canalway Passport Program officially kicks off on Friday, June 10th
- just in time for fun Summer adventures with friends and family. All Passport Stamps are available free of charge at each venue - you don't need to pay to enter. However, heading into the venue can be fun too!
Canalway Passport Sites- Keep Checking Back, the list is growing!
Collecting Passport Stamps in the program simply requires a visit to the partner sites. Typically located by the Visitor Desk, the Stamp will be easily accessible to gain an impression. No entry fee needs to be paid to obtain the stamp impression.
And, it's a simple stamp with an indelible meaning - you're seeing those places of culture, history, recreation and nature that play a key part in our past and present. Places that help shape who we are today and often add to the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
Show Your Passport Pride - #FindYourAdventure in #OECanalway
June 10 - August 20 - To help kick off the program, we invite you to post pictures of you and your passport stamps at any/all venues in the Canalway. At the end of the summer - we just may have some fun giveaways for those who do! Here's how it works:
Many people like to put their stamps into an official NPS Passport Stamp Book. These are available for sale at many of our partner sites for $9.95. Or, you can simply collect the stamps on pieces of paper and create your own memory book. Either way, we hope you have a wonderful time finding adventures in the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area!
