August 10, 2016 -
On August 25, 2016, the National Park Service turns 100. Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) and the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area will be celebrating the occasion with a series of events for the whole family.
National Heritage Areas such as the Ohio & Erie Canalway are designated by Congress as places where natural, cultural, and historic resources combine to form a cohesive, nationally important landscape. The Ohio & Erie Canalway extends from Cleveland to New Philadelphia, OH along the first 110 miles of the canal that helped Ohio and our nation grow.
National Heritage Areas are a community program of the National Park Service. Through community programs, the National Park Service works in almost every one of America’s 3,141 counties.
The Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area takes a grassroots, community-driven approach to projects concerning historic preservation, natural resource conservation, recreation, heritage tourism, and education.
