The Ohio & Erie Canalway works with local partners in the community to provide grants that permit the development, renovation, and restoration of facilities and features within its boundaries that help visitors understand and appreciate important natural and cultural aspects of the corridor. Since the founding of the Ohio & Erie Canalway, the Ohio & Erie Canalway Association has awarded over $6 million for projects within the Canalway. These funds have leveraged more than $27 million of investment coming from private, local, state, and other federal funding. This has allowed the OECA to contribute to the construction of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, Scenic Byway and Visitor Facilities and Services throughout the Ohio & Erie Canalway, and to enrich local cities, towns, and villages through community development projects that feature historic preservation and/or natural conservation.
