Canalway Authors Celebrate National Reading Day at Sippo Lake
Eight authors have accepted Stark Parks’ invitation to celebrate National Reading Day at the Congressman Ralph Regula Canalway Center inside the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park. The event will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2.
The featured authors’ books cover a variety of topics, including bicycling, local nature, and canal history. Each will have copies of their books for sale.
Celebrate your interest in the Canalway by discussing Pedaling to Lunch with Stan Purdum, The Jackson Bog with Michael Witt, Towpath to Towpath, A Comprehensive History of Massillon with Margie Vogt, A Photo Album of Ohio’s Canal Era, 1825-1912 with retired engineer Jack Gieck, Ohio's Grand Canal with Terry Woods, Canals of Ohio with Boone Triplett, Johnny Appleseed of the Ohio & Erie Canal also known as author Jeff Maximovich and the beautiful environmental photography of Ian Adams.
Ernie’s Bike Shop, local photographer Doug Perry, and the Stark County Bicycle Club will have informational booths. The Perry Sippo Branch Library will offer story-time for any children who accompany their parents to the event. Lee Rinehart of North Canton will portray Captain TJ in the Canalway Center, introducing visitors to the history and nature of the historic canal.
